Introduction

The Alchemist Collection showcases the best selection of mainly classic Chinese antique furniture in rare woods such as the much coveted Huanghuali wood and Zitan wood, not forgetting traditional Ju wood furniture as well as Terra cotta figures from the various Chinese dynasties, ancient Khmer sculptures, Buddha images, Chinese robes and textiles, Japanese carved Ivories and Chinese Porcelain.

With humble beginning back in the early 1970’s, the owner started the shop in Singapore armed with little to his name but with a keen eye for beautiful things, great ambition and determination. Our galleries are based in China, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

The furniture collection never fails to impress the most skeptical of eyes. With pieces dating as far back as the Ming dynasty (1368 A.D. – 1644 A.D.), the ingenious and intricate joinery is the sole method used to connect members one to another as the Chinese cabinet maker never used metal nails and glue is always secondary to the précised joinery, once cannot help but admire the skills of the olden day craftsmen. On top of the brilliant construction, every piece of furniture goes through laborious repairs and cleaning processes, all carefully done by hands of skilled masters in China. All items must pass through strict quality control at every stage, so quality finishing is consistent.

The greatest attraction about Chinese furniture is the simplicity in form and design, allowing the beautiful natural wood grains to show. Such classic furniture fits perfectly into the most modern home setting, adding to it, and the slightest hint of tradition.

We take much care in the selection of each individual piece, be it big or small, they always turn out to be the best.  We hope that you will find browsing through our web site appreciated and rewarding.
