Details
The design of these tired carry boxes originated from food boxes, made mostly of bamboo and lightweight woods for easy carriage by attendants on outings are depicted in numerous historical painting and other illustrations. This fine example, made of huanghuali wood, is likely derived from common food boxes and probably used to contain valuables. This assumption is reinforced by the presence of a lock mechanism securing the lids to the sides of the handles, rendering the box trays inaccessible.
