In ancient China, most people sat and slept on mats, although they also had low platforms on which to sit and recline, which is the earliest form of summer bed. Any platform of sufficient length could be used as a bed as well as for sitting and sleeping in the daytime. The villagers also like to put out their large seated platform to the outdoor area in hot summer nights, family members and neighbors are able to relex under the open sky, thus today this type of furniture is usually referred to as "Summer Bed".
