This small scholar box is representative of the basic form of small chest. It is plain except for the beading the edge of the box. The beading is not only for decoration but also serves to strengthen the wood. The bronze plates reinforce the four corners and side edge of the box,and a face plate with cloud motif hasp. All these metalwork fixtures are flush with the surface of the chest.
